  1.              USING THE FORUM USTATUS AND SEND COMMANDS

  9. Many of your CompuServe friends and acquaintances are often
  10. online in your favorite CompuServe Forum(s) at the same times you
  11. are.  For this reason, it's usually very convenient to find out who
  12. else is currently online in the Forum.  At times, you may see a
  13. friend of yours who you want to get a message to right away.  Other
  14. times, perhaps, you will see some Forum members who you'd like to
  15. invite to the Forum's conference area so you can get to know them
  16. better.  CompuServe offers two very convenient commands to
  17. facilitate this type of "real-time" communication between Forum
  18. members:  USTATUS and SEND.
  19.  
  20. The USTATUS command (which stands for User STATUS) allows you to
  21. view a listing of users that are currently online in the Forum with
  22. you.  By entering the UST command (the common abbreviation for
  23. USTATUS) at any Forum '!' command prompt, CompuServe will display a
  24. listing similar to the following:

  39. As you can see from the above example, the display is divided up
  40. into five columns:
  41.  
  42. USER    -   A temporary number assigned to you for your current
  43. session only.
  44.  
  45. USER ID -   CompuServe User ID number.
  46.  
  47. NOD     -   Three letter node (access point) identification.
  48.  
  49. AREA    -   Area of the Forum the member is currently using:
  50.                Mes   -  Messages
  51.                Lib   -  Libraries
  52.                Rm #  -  Conference Room #
  53.                Group -  Conference Group
  54.                SysOp -  Sysop maintenance area (accessible only
  55.                         to Forum Sysops)
  56.  
  57. NAME    -   Member's name or handle (note that names larger than 19
  58.             characters long are truncated in the UST listing)
  59.  
  60. All members appearing in the UST listing are ALSO CURRENTLY ONLINE
  61. USING THE FORUM.

  63. You can use the Forum SEND command to send a one line (73
  64. character) message to any member who is online in the Forum with
  65. you.

  67.                 The format of the SEND command is:
  68.  
  69.                       SEN user# message text.
  70.  
  71.                              Example:

  73.                 SEN 3 Hi Susan!  How have you been?
  74.  
  75.  Susan (User 3) will receive the following message on her screen:

  77.        ;;[1] Mike Schoenbach - Hi Susan!  How have you been?
  78.  
  79. The double semi-colon indicates that the message Susan received is
  80. a SEND.  The number in brackets represents the SENDER's temporary
  81. USER number (NOTE: *NOT* User ID number).  The name appearing after
  82. the USER number is the name of the SENDER.  The text appearing to
  83. the right of the dash is the text of the SEND line.

  85.          To respond to Mike Schoenbach, Susan would enter:

  87.       SEN 1 I'm doing fine, Mike.  What have you been up to?
  88.

  94. IMPORTANT NOTE:  The SEND command is *DISABLED* (not accepted as a
  95. valid command) in the Practice Forum.
